         <title>Sing Up announces a unique celebration of singing &apos;Songlines - Singing Coast to Coast&apos; 20th May - 4th July 2009</title>
<description>From 20th May - 4th July 2009, thousands of young people will sing in a series of events that stretch from the west to east coast of England. Songlines - Singing Coast to Coast is the first project of its kind in the UK and will see performances in towns from Barrow on the west coast, all the way across to Hartlepool on the east coast, with 17 stop-offs along the route in just over one month.

This musical journey is a large scale celebration of the singing achievements of Sing Up Cumbria - the national singing programme - which launched in Cumbria 18 months ago, benefitting over 6000 Cumbrian primary age children and Sing Up Dales, which launched in January 2008 and has since reached over 2500 pupils aged 5-15. Singing helps children to learn more effectively and improves confidence. Sing Up gives groups of young people from around the region the opportunity to sing together and with other choirs and music groups.

         <title>Songlines – Singing Coast to Coast</title>
<description>Watch out for Songlines – Singing Coast to Coast. A travelling ballad which tells the story of each town on the way from Barrow to Hartlepool!

Young Vocal Leaders from each location lead the primary schools and audience in the ballad they wrote together.

The ballad begins its journey in Barrow-in-Furness on 9th June, reaches Workington on the 11th, Wigton on the 13th, Penrith on the 18th, there is a cross-county singing celebration at Theatre by the Lake on Sunday 21st June then the ballad continues to Kendal for the 23rd and completes the Cumbrian leg of its journey in Kirkby Stephen on the 26th June before heading into the Dales.

<title>What are the Sing Up Awards?</title>
<description>Sing Up Awards are designed to recognise and commend all schools who sing.

Schools assess themselves and their current level of attainment and apply for their award via the Sing Up website.

If they wish to apply for the next award up, then schools set their own goals to meet that criteria.

If your school is ready to apply for Platinum Singing Schools status, you need to get in touch with SoundWave and we will gladly put forward your nomination: Contact sarahw@soundwave.org.uk

         <title>What is a vocal leader?</title>
<description>The short answer is anyone who sings with other people and takes the lead.

For example, you might be a parent singing to a child. You could be a teacher with a class. You might be a pupil in the year 2 class who wants to get everyone started. You could be a secondary student wanting to volunteer to teach songs at an after primary school club. You could be a singer who wants to start a community singing group or lead workshops. You might run a community group or workshop activity that sometimes involves bits of singing. Maybe you run a choir with an excellent reputation. Or maybe you have been leading singing all your whole life.

Whatever way you approach vocal leadership, Sing Up Cumbria aims to offer something for you. Something to help celebrate your achievements. Something to help with your professional development. Or something to inspire you with fresh ideas and approaches.</description>
