Musical Animals 1
This unit is the first of a series developing children's abilities to recognise and perform a range of simple rhythmic 'building blocks', initially by ear and later with the support of simple notation. Using these rhythmic 'building blocks', they will create and perform their own sequences, and modify and combine these to be performed with sequences created by others. The unit is closely linked to QCA Unit 10: Play it Again.
It introduces the recognition, performance and sequencing of simple rhythmic building blocks as a preliminary to developing drone and ostinato patterns using the pentatonic scale (see QCA Unit 12: Dragon Scales). It also represents an effective consolidation activity for work on words and rhythm introduced at KS1
