Painted Ocean - Rime of the Ancient Mariner

rime

Painted Ocean interprets The Rime of the Ancient Mariner through story, music, images, dance and Coleridge's own powerful verse.

Aimed at KS2 pupils, it supports Wider Opportunities by encouraging children to sing, and to learn to play musical instruments.

Children's awareness of musical instruments is promoted through workshop visits to individual primary schools. The workshops are based on the story of the Ancient Mariner, and are delivered by Cumbria Music Service's touring ensembles.

Children will take part in singing traditional sea shanties and specially composed songs during the ensemble workshops.

The workshops are underpinned by
- cross-curricular online resources at www.tuned-in.org,
- an optional resource pack
- opportunities to take part in an imaginative dance project based around The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

There will be opportunities for schools to explore ICT in music through online composition activities involving Audacity and Photo Story.

Painted Ocean coincides with an important exhibition of illustrators of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by the Wordsworth Trust. It is hoped that a number of special events will also take place at museums in Cumbria, celebrating the maritime heritage.

This is a wonderful resource, can't wait to use it! I'm going to mix it with doing tudor explorers and slave trade!
