The unit focuses on how instrument, voices and ICT sound processing equipment can be used imaginatively to suggest real and impossible spaces. The unit enhances pupils' knowledge of instrument-specific techniques and develops their ability to perform using voices and instruments with increasing control. It addresses musical ways in which electronic sound processing equipment can be used to modify sounds, leading to exploring, combining and organising sounds through the selective use of appropriate equipment.
The unit supports and extends the introduction to exploring acoustic sounds, and the use of sound processing equipment outlined in the QCA KS3 unit Soundscapes. The unit links to work in science in developing understanding of the nature of acoustics.
