Children consider a range of singing, clapping and counting-out games, familiar and unfamiliar.They share their knowledge and skills, and are invited to contribute to a developing on-line collection of games. The unit examines ways in which singing games are transmitted through a living oral tradition, introducing children to the notion of oral transmission in folk music of the British Isles. It highlights and extends awareness of pulse, rhythmic prediction, changes of tempo, etc. The unit links to the QCA music unit 14: Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard.
