Lullaby

Lullaby

In this unit, children consider ways of using the voice to help a baby to get to sleep.

They explore the expressive use of voice through speaking, whispering and singing, and consider the appropriate use of timbre and dynamics to settle a crying infant. They listen to, learn and discuss the purpose of well-known lullabies. They go on to compose their own lullabies based on the minor third or 'cuckoo' interval. The unit makes the following connections with the NC orders for music:
- Controlling sounds through singing and playing
- Responding and reviewing

The unit extends and reinforces QCA Unit 1 by reinforcing the expressive elements.
