The Gypsy Violin
The unit supports children's knowledge, understanding and experience of bowed and plucked string instruments. They understand how the sounds made on string instruments can be used expressively. They learn about the Roma people, and find out about traditional and contemporary Roma musicians and musical styles.
Hans and The Trumpet
The children compose using classroom instruments in combination with brass and other orchestral instruments to create a musical performance based on the story Hans and the Trumpet.
How the Flute Came to the Lakota
The children experiment with a range of found objects to understand some principles of how sound is produced and altered by woodwind instruments. They compose using classroom instruments in combination with woodwind instruments to create a musical performance based on a traditional North American story.
